Advanced CGE Modeling
Preparation for the course
What is to be done before the presence part?
A one week advanced course in CGE modelling is a challenging exercise, and our program is dense and avoids frontal teaching by senior researchers as much as possible in order to give students enough room to work with CGE models and learn necessary skills such as result analysis and presentation. This approach can work only if students arrive well prepared as outlined here:
Software set-up
As part of the preparation of the presence part of the course, each student is expected to:
- Install the latest GAMS version on a laptop so it can be used during the presence part (A GAMS course license will be provided)
- Install CGEBox on a laptop and test if it functions. Problems should be reported and fixed with the the help of an instructor before the presence part
- Train the first steps with CGEBox based on the CGEBox training videos
Closing knowledge gaps on CGE modelling
The pre-existing knowledge about CGE modelling of each student will likely differ, depending on which master or doctoral courses they took and their own reseach up-to-date. In order to sucessfully participate in the presence part, a basic understanding of CGE modelling is necessary. Please refer to the following material to check and update your knowledge accordingly.
Your pre-presence assignments
In order to avoid the tiring experience of repeated frontal teaching by the same senior researchers, the necessary background of the different sessions is instead given by the students themselves. Accordingly, each student receives an assigment well before the presence part. The assignments are distributed via a lottery to you.
Details about the assignments can be found here.
